2018 Father's Day Gift Guide •

Father’s Day is fast-approaching! I love an opportunity to celebrate my husband, my dad, my father-in-law, and all the guys in my life who have played a fatherly role to me or my kids.

And yet.

I find these guys incredibly tough to shop for. I’m not sure why. I know them all pretty well. I know their likes and dislikes, the things they enjoy. But I still had to source gift ideas from my husband for this post.

After he suggested I give him the all-clear to order his Tesla 3 and I finished laughing, here’s what he came up with!

T’s Personal Requests

Our grill cover is missing most of the velcro straps that keep it from blowing off the grill, so this grill cover will need to make its way here sometime soon, Father’s Day or not.

He also spends a substantial amount of time washing off our patio. (On the one hand, it always looks great; on the other hand, the kids are going to drag dirt and sand all over it again tomorrow. I digress.) He has mentioned getting a handheld pressure washer multiple times and this one has good reviews.

T loves shoes… seriously, he has 50+ pairs of sneakers and is very immersed in sneakerhead culture. I got him a pair of Stan Smiths a few years ago, which are an always appropriate choice. His request for shoes is a permanent one.

Sunglasses are always a good idea, and he is partial to Oakleys. I’m admittedly hooked on Oakleys now too. They are great quality. (The Frogskins are a great choice.)

T’s Quick Hits

For the corporate father: “Happy Socks. If I have to go to work, I might as well amuse myself with flamingo socks.”

For the nerd/pop culture dad: “LootCrate subscription. You know I love this.”

For the sports-loving dad: “What about a behind the scenes tour at the stadium of his favorite team?”

For the hipster dad: “I think most dads would enjoy a brewery tour as long as they like beer. Don’t make him do a pedal wagon though. No one wants to work that hard for their beer.”

For the handy dad: “Every man should have a power drill.”

Finally…

For my husband’s first Father’s Day, I printed a bunch of photos of our daughter. I then cut out her head and plastered them on random things he would see and use throughout the day. I added thought bubble stickers to some of them too. I went out and got him good coffee that morning and delivered it with one of these attached. He found one on the bathroom mirror when he went to shower. You get the idea. Pick the funniest faces, make up whatever captions you like and let Dad enjoy. My husband was so amused by this that he saved all the Kiddo Heads in his (only) photo album.
