My Favorite Blogs

This post is #7 in my September Writing Project. Details are here.

Prompt: Share your favorite blogs.

Alright alright alright. After yesterday’s post, I’m glad to be writing something positive and kind of frothy. Also, my son was up for FOUR HOURS overnight, so my brain couldn’t put together a deep post right now to save my life.

I use Feedly to organize my blogs. I read quite a few and it would be tough to keep track of them otherwise.

Fashion

I’m not a fashionable person. I am a reasonably put-together person (unless you see me at Kroger on a Saturday morning) but I don’t jump on every trend. I used to follow more than a dozen different fashion blogs, but over the years have streamlined.

Kendi Everyday is a lot of fun to read. There was a time when she was wearing a lot of high-end dresses and that was hard to relate to but she’s wearing more accessible brands and styles these days. She has a really enjoyable, conversational tone to her writing and her Instastories are great too.

Brookyn Blonde is my aspirational fashion go-to. Helena is based in NYC and I live vicariously through her city adventures. She wears a lot of neutrals and when she pulls her hair into a low pony, she looks chic, not like a founding father (like me).

Finally, I keep an eye on Audrey at Putting Me Together. She shops a lot of mass retailers and offers tons of tips and style guides for putting items together. (Hence the blog title, I suppose.) I’ve found these resources very helpful.

Home

A lot of the home + interiors bloggers I used to follow have stopped posting regularly, which is a bummer. The only home blog I read regularly is DIY Playbook. Casey and her husband just bought a new home and finished up a near-total gut job on it. I can’t wait to see how they decorate the new place.

Any suggestions for other home bloggers to read? I would love to add a few to my list.

Lifestyle

I’m using “lifestyle” to encompass writers who cover a range of stuff. That’s the correct use of the term, right?  (I hope so, because I’ve used that word to describe MPP before.)

Erin Loechner of Design for Mankind isn’t posting as frequently lately, but everything she writes is like poetry. When I think about how I want to write on my best days, it’s like this. Also, check out her book, Chasing Slow. If you’re into minimalism and slow living, it’s a must-read.

I also really like Yes and Yes. Written by Sarah Von Bargen, this blog is full of helpful ideas and tips for basically anything you’ve ever wanted to accomplish. Want to save more money? She’s got a plan. Want to be better about using up the food in your fridge. She’s got a plan. She’s like the Elizabeth Warren of the blogging world.

Finally, there’s Courtney at A Thoughtful Place. She seems like an incredibly sweet human; she also has impeccable taste. Her photos make me want to move to California and I love the way she writes about her family.

Health

Well + Good is a great resource for all kinds of health and beauty information. I also read Goop sometimes. I kind of hate myself for reading Goop sometimes. I can’t quite decide how I feel about it but I keep it on my Feedly all the same.

As far as individual bloggers, I really enjoy reading Fitnessista and Peanut Butter Fingers. Both Gina and Julie are well-educated in health and fitness. When I’m looking for a quick work-out, these are my first two stops as they both publish routines regularly.

News

While they’re not blogs, I keep track of a few news outlets on Feedly as well. Mashable, Fast Company, The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review and Scientific American regularly serve up interesting content. I feel smart when I read these publications.

Local Blogs

There are a few Cincinnati-based bloggers that I keep an eye on too! Two Purple Couches and Sincerely Sweetpea are my buddies from Girlboss Events. I love keeping up with the changes, both big and small, that they’re making in their homes. They each have their own distinct style and I love the color they both inject into everything they do!

Another nearly-local blogging duo that I enjoy is Small Town Living USA. Stephanie and Sydney are a mother-daughter pair based north of Cincinnati and they write about small businesses and food. I enjoy it all, but especially the food stuff. I love all food things. They seem to have such a great relationship. My mom and I were really close so I always appreciate seeing similar bonds between other mothers and daughters.

And the two most recent additions to my blogroll are Anna Mae Groves and Auburn Artisan. Anna’s style is incredible and I’ve been enjoying digging through her archives. Auburn Artisan is written by Kaitlin Kirchner and it is the most joyful thing you’ll find on the internet. Her photos are unreal.

There you have it.

There are other blogs I read, but these are the ones I can’t miss!
