Thursday Things Vol. 7

Holy moly, what a few weeks it’s been. We celebrated Bean’s birthday, hosted Thanksgiving brunch, decorated our entire house for Christmas, and then headed to DisneyWorld for a week. Now I’m back and still trying to dig out at my 9-to-5, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still have THINGS.

Gift Guide of the Week

I really, truly love me a good gift guide. There are tons of great ideas out there but this week I came across the best guide I’ve seen this year (and maybe ever). Tsh Oxender is the author of The Art of Simple, a lifestyle blog and podcast that focuses on the little things that matter. The gift guide she created this year is a fantastic mix of quality items across a range of categories including books, clothing, accessories, food and more. I’ve identified a few items to gift to family members… and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t already bookmarked a few things for myself when the budget allows too.

Christmas Song of the Week

“Santa Stole My Lady” – Fitz & The Tantrums

Read of the Week

This HuffPost infographic by Megan Devine and Brittany Bilyeu offers suggestions for helping a grieving friend during the holidays. This will be my eighth Christmas without my mom and contrary to the notion that “time heals all wounds,” it actually gets harder every year. I still want people to ask about her and speak her name. “How to help a grieving friend at the holidays” gets it all correct.

Recipe of the Week

We recently tried Peanut Butter Fingers’ recipe for Easy Cheesy Crockpot Chicken Corn Chili and it was DELICIOUS so it’s on the menu for tonight. It lived up to its descriptive title and I’m already looking forward to digging in about 10 hours from now.

Color of the Week

Source: Pantone

Nope, kidding. No color of the week. Pantone named Living Coral as their 2019 Color of the Year. In fact, Fast Company proclaimed that Living Color has killed Millennial Pink. It has occurred to me multiple times that Millennial Pink probably won’t live forever, and also that Millennial Pink Pennies is kind of nonsensical gibberish. I do love when Pantone (and other companies) announce their colors of the year though. It’s fascinating to hear the reasoning behind it and see how it impacts fashion and design for the year ahead.

I hope the rest of your week is fantastic and your weekend is even better!
