My Two Cents

Lately

I’m surprised I remembered how to login to my admin panel here. It’s been an embarrassingly long time since I published anything to MPP. And even though I don’t have thousands of people out there wondering where I was, it feels disingenuous to show up here again like “here’s my favorite song this week” or whatever.

So, lately…

Work has been a lot.

My company attended CES last year and had a great experience. This year, I was asked to join the team and said yes. It’s a great opportunity, even though I’m already nervous about being away from my fam for a full week in January. The prep work is becoming heavier and heavier each week, on top of my normal workload.

Beyond that, I’m interviewing for a new job (same company though). I’ve had a few other opportunities pop up over the years, but none have felt quite as right as this one. I’m trying to balance my usual optimistic point of view with much-needed realism. It’s a great job and there are plenty of qualified people interested in it. Hopefully I’ll know more in the next few weeks and until then, I’ll be practicing my interview answers every chance I get!

Time seemed to speed up this month and I couldn’t catch my breath.

I had a death in the extended family and a close family member’s health issues to contend with. We hosted a birthday party for our daughter, the Girlboss Events Holiday Pop-Up happened and every weekend seemed to have multiple things planned. I wrapped up a fun freelance project and volunteered in Bean’s classroom three or four times.

None of this stuff is terribly unusual but it all seemed to feel urgent this month.

My family always comes first.

The hours for writing were few and far between. And with so many hours spent on the computer for work—many of which were visible to the kids—the last thing I wanted to do during our rare downtime was post a blog or upload to Instagram.

We’ve still made time for fun over these last few weeks. The aforementioned birthday party was awesome. We invited her class to meet us at the park for playtime and cupcakes, and then prayed for good weather. We lucked out and the kiddos all seemed to have a great time.

With Frozen 2 coming out, we obviously reserved time to see that. I thought it was SO. GOOD. I truly loved it. I think the music is fantastic too. I’ve heard of some people saying there’s no standout song like “Let It Go” and maybe that’s true, but we’ve had the soundtrack on repeat for weeks now and I think it’s all great. Kristoff’s ballad is my favorite.

We also continued our Day-After-Thanksgiving tradition of decorating the house for the holidays. This is one of my favorite days of the year. I love how cozy and festive it feels here and my husband did a fantastic job with the lights outside too.

I’m planning to be back here a bit more now.

Just like the body starts to feel twitchy if it’s not exercised enough (or maybe that’s my RLS, who knows), my fingers have been craving the tap of the keys for something other than work. I’m aiming to get back into the habit of posting about once a week. Now I’m off to watch one of the Star Wars movies with my husband, who tells me I need to see them all before the next one is released in a few weeks…

(“Here’s some money; go see a Star War.” Name that show.)
