My Wish List

This post is #13 in my September Writing Project. Details are here.

Prompt: What’s on your wish list?

Whoo. Let’s see, I’d like to visit Maine and definitely tour Europe, I’ve always wanted to own a pair of SJP heels, and my iPhone is definitely approaching the end of its useful life. Those things feel like major luxuries though. Well, except the phone I guess. When this one conks out, I will get a new one.

Thinking more about the little stuff, I consulted with my Amazon list. That’s got to be one of the best inventions ever. Any time there’s something that catches my eye, add it to the list. A lot of times when I go back to the list weeks later, I can delete items because I only thought I wanted them in the moment and my leveler head prevails. Anything that stays long-term goes on my Christmas list in December. (Yes, my mother-in-law still requests a Christmas list and spoils us rotten. Hi Barb 🙂 )

Here are a few things I’ve had my eye on lately.

Disney 2020 Daily Calendar

I’ll probably buy this soon because I don’t want to risk it selling out. It’s a daily tear-away calendar and each page has an interesting fact, trivia question, quote, etc. on it from a Disney film. I think it would be really fun to look at this each morning with the kiddos.

A Soup Thermos

Getting wild here, I know. In the fall and winter, I make a lot of crockpot soups (like the ones included here) and we always have extras. I’ve tried to schlep them to work before in Pyrex bows but it’s not ideal. This cute little thermos would make it easier to bring something soothing for lunch on a cold day.

Photo Frames

I think I saw these on DIY Playbook years ago. They’ve been on my list for ages. I think this is such a cute frame set but I haven’t figured out a good location for them in this house.

Utility Jacket

I have an olive utility jacket, but it’s a little too big on me and the shape has never been quite right. It was one of those things where I got it in my brain that I needed an olive jacket for something (I think a trip to Chicago) and so I kept it even though it wasn’t perfect. That was a solid four years ago, which means for four autumns, I’ve made do. Maybe I can permit myself to try something else now.

How Not To Die Cookbook

I’ve heard good things about this one. Also, not dying is like my #1 goal, so ok.

Other Random Things

These are not on any actual shopping list, but I would like to eventually get a salt lamp, some bookends, a bra that doesn’t dig in, the perfect jeans (where are they? Do they even exist?), a dog, and I could really go for a gyro right now.

Some of these things are more reasonable than others, though none are too extravagant and I guess there’s really not that much on this list. I feel good about that though. There was a time, years ago, when I was shopping way too much. It was never an addiction, but more a young grad enjoying the first time in her life that she had extra money. (There wasn’t really “extra” growing up.)

Thankfully I’ve moved past most of that. I really believe there’s a lot to be said for having a content heart.
